I don't much buy into information overload--people do have control over what they take in. However, I find myself in the throes of Google Fatigue as I scan endless blog post headers about What Google is Launching Today. This post from John Battelle, about Google Base, just did me in. It wasn't the particular post that did it, but just that it was the one that made my brain do a cartoon --twink-- . Some days, it seems like 20+ % of the blog posts I see are about Google. Don't get me wrong: I'm okay with Google. I spend a lot of time with Google and we get along pretty well. We exchange Christmas cards and meet for coffee. We've even gone on vacation together and been through some tough times, but lately Google's been a little domineering and frankly, I'm feeling smothered. I think it's great that Google is so out there and tearing up the place. I don't want to break it off or anything. I just need some breathing room and time to...you know...process. I may hang out with some other search engines and beta applications on occassion, but not to worry. As long as Google doesn't go apeshit on me, I think we'll be just fine.

I'm with Walt, too. . . I do think that Google is trying to take over the universe, although with the best of intentions, at least from their point of view. But really, couldn't they get the cavalry to march a little slower?

Glad to hear that it's not just me, Walt. And Skully...check under your bed. Google is insidious! That bugger is everywhere.

I can only say Yahoo! to that, or maybe tout the benefits of Multiple Search Nodes (sorry). I've taken to rotating the initial search point every month or two (among G, Y, and M) for most cases, with considerable success at easing G-whizzery.
[Yesterday someone asked whether I now work at Google. I explained that being in a future Google Sandwich--with Google's old campus 0.6 miles in one direction and the future campus half a mile in the other direction--doesn't actually make me part of the Googleplex. Yet.]
