Jenny Shifts, Peels out of ALA Parking Lot
Like many professionally active folks, Jenny Levine has questioned the usefulness of ALA membership (and even the usefulness of ALA itself). She had planned on joining ALA this week, out of her own pocket, until she got word that as an ALA member, she would be required to register for the conference in order to participate on the panel. Presenters who are not members get a free day pass. Huh? Says Jenny:
You either value your own professionals or you don’t, and the current policy tells me you don’t.
I still haven't filed my petition for a re-run for Council. Any thoughts on why I should or shouldn't?

P.S. Your blogging presenter pal could probably get a press pass to ALA. Those are free, after all.

SOMEBODY has to do it, why not you?...
Ummmm... I'll give you $5?...
Makes you appreciate the comparatively minor bureaucracy at your job?...
Seriously, though, some of us just don't have the patience for that kind of thing, so my hat's off to those of you that do (or did, anyway). With Jessamyn not re-upping, I get worried. I hope you stay, but I certainly understand if you don't.
And I *am* serious about the $5.

Hey! That's what I'm looking for. Bullying works. Besides, I'd never get out of my building or even the state if it weren't for Council.

If you don't re-run, I will give you a big guilt trip.
