But we can help the service economy to be less mean by supporting LIVING WAGE initiatives.
Pres. Bush SUSPENDED the Davis-Bacon Act after Katrina. We as librarians can help the NLRB to act on issues like this. It's not as visible as painting a ruined building, but a letter to a person in Congreess can help a great deal.

Hi Rick--I'm sorry I didn't have time to catch up with you during the reading stage--it was nice to meet you, even if for just a mouthed "hello." I had a great time emceeing, even as numbers dwindled over the afternoon. Pinksy was terrific to work with and listen to--great performer!

As for Anderson Cooper...I almost didn't go. I was tired and overstimulated, but ran into Chad Haeffle of Hidden Peanuts, and we decided since we were there, we'd go. I'm so glad that we did! Hope to run into you again.

Anderson Cooper's appearance was one of the highlights of my experience in New Orleans, as was hearing Robert Pinsky at the Live @ Your Library Stage. Thanks for being part of the authors' stage presentation.

I hope our blogs and photos and stories help get more help to New Orleans. I hope I can finds something concrete to do, like go back.
