Yesterday I was trying to find something on the ALA site, when I came across this:
The American Library Association’s (ALA) Office for Intellectual Freedom and the Freedom to Read Foundation have been designated by the Frank Zappa family as among the organizations to receive contributions made in his memory.
How 'bout that?
EDIT 2/20/07: I heard from Jonathan Kelley at the Freedom to Read Foundation who responded to my request for more info about the Zappa fund.
The Frank Zappa Memorial Fund was established by Gail Zappa upon Frank's death in 1993 and has to date received nearly $25,000 for the Freedom to Read Foundation's endowment. The FTRF endowment, in addition to providing long-term support of the Freedom to Read Foundation, was used to help fund litigation against the Children's Internet Protection Act. Although we don't heavily promote the Zappa Fund, we still every once in awhile receive gifts from fans of Zappa.
Don Wood from ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom also sent along a link to his blog. So, if you don't know what to get that Zappa fan in your life, there ya go.
